Below is the Time Domain spectrum of a good gear case. Notice that no excessive periodic peaks are found, at any running speed.
Below is the FFT spectrum with an indication of elevated motor speed vibration. The importance of the last 4 pages is the use of time domains spectrums to help determine gear wear. Gear wear cannot always be easily seen on FFT or Genv spectrums. I would recommend taking and trending time domain spectrums with all gear case inspections. Time domain are also useful in determining bearing faults, and should be taken on all units.
